My First!

This is my first blog ever. The reason I’ve started is because a lot of the time I feel cut off. If I worked in an office, I’d have colleagues to run things by or spark ideas from. It’s true that I get e-mails from readers who want me to know how much they have enjoyed my books. In fact, I love getting letters from readers. But I’d like the give and take that comes from having colleagues. Who are my colleagues? The people who read my books. Other writers. Together, along with a lot of other people, we make up the publishing world. Without us, there would be no publishing world.

So here’s where I’m at. Titles and covers. My editor always asks for my input, and most of the time, my mind goes blank. I know what I like but, quite often, it’s been done before. What’s new? What works? Which of my titles of the 24 books I’ve published do you like best?

You don’t have to choose my books. Choose any author you like. What titles and covers have appealed to you?

My very first book was a Regency romance and was published in 1987. The title I gave it was The Mismatched Marquis. I thought it was witty. My editor proposed Bluestocking Bride, and that’s the title it was published under. To this day, Bluestocking Bride has been my favorite of all my titles. It described the heroine to a ‘T’.

What appeals to you?

Now for something completely different. The e-mails I get from readers are not only about books. Sometimes they want advice. Well, I’m used to getting e-mails from unpublished writers who want advice, but this e-mail was different. The gist of it was this: when do you know if you’ve met Mr. Right?

How did you find Mr. Right?

Any ideas? I know how I shall answer this young woman of 27, but I’ll tell you about that later.

    MY ANSWER
    1. Beware of “bad boys.” You won’t reform them. Reformed bad boys are okay.
    2. Beware of charmers. Some of the most notorious serial killers have been charmers.
    3. Don’t be in too much of a hurry to commit. Remember, “Marry in haste, repent at leisure.”
    4. If in doubt, you haven’t met Mr. Right.
    5. You’ll know when you’ve met him. There’s no explaining it. Something will click inside you. and it will be the same for him.
