THE SEERS OF GRAMPIAN

Now has come the time to introduce you to The Scot and I, the second book in my new series of historical romantic suspense for Berkley about The Seers of Grampian, and due out in bookstores in the first week of June this year.

The Seers are three grandsons of a famous witch, Lady Valeria, each of whom, on her death, inherited some aspect of their grandmother's psychic powers.

The second book in the series, The Scot and I (Berkley, June 2009) takes place in the rugged hills and peaks of the Scottish Highlands, in the Dee Valley. That's where Queen Victoria's favorite residence, Balmoral Castle, is situated, and where the present queen, Elizabeth, spends very summer.

An agent for Her Majesty's Secret Service, Alex Hepburn is a reluctant psychic whose powers sometimes come into play during his missions - such as preventing the attempt to assassinate Queen Victoria at Balmoral Castle, by a conspirator he's been hunting forever. But it is a mysterious young woman who foils the plot, then slips away . . .

She is Mahri Scot, once a courier for the faction thatAlex has sworn to destroy. She can handle a gun or a knife as well as any man and, disguised as a boy, she becomes virtually invisible. She's never encountered a man she couldn't outsmart, outrun, or outmaneuver - until now. With Alex hot on her trail, she flees to the Scottish countryside. There she discovers that sometimes surrender can be the sweetest revenge - and the most dangerous.

The book opens with a dramatic scene in the ballroom. Yes, I was there. Unfortunately, no photographs were allowed. But I have many photographs of the grounds and surrounding area. Visit my PhotoGallery to view photographs.

This series is set in the late Victorian era, a new time period for me. Queen Victoria, now a widow, has been on the throne for 48 years. Women are demanding equal opportunity with men in the universities and the professions. Female explorers undertake their own expeditions to places like Egypt and Greece. People are now able to travel from one end of Britain to the other in trains. Telephones and telegraph lines connect most major cities and towns.
